For Parents to Teach Their Children That God Created the Earth Is Tantamount to Child Abuse

Bill Nye, the Science Guy

Bill Nye (a.k.a. PBS‘s “the Science Guy”) is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, this time on the Internet, with his YouTube video in which he all but calls parents (“grownups”) ignoramuses for teaching their children anything but evolution:

“[I]f you want to deny evolution and live in your world that is completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine. But don’t make your kids do it, because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future.” — Dave Bohon, ” ‘Science Guy’ Attacks Parents Who Teach Children Creation ‘Story’,” The New American, 31 August 2012

Nowadays rabid evolutionists have adopted an approach which either implies or outright claims that questioning evolution is the equivalent of child abuse. Nye adds a new wrinkle: Keep it up, parents, and you’ll produce of crop of scientifically ignorant voters who might actually object to throwing away taxpayer funds for big science/big government projects, thus threatening support for our favorite junk science programs, such as fetal stem cell “research,” “global warming,” and the unchallenged indoctrination of school children in the pseudoscience of materialistic evolution.

Dr. Georgia Purdom: She’s skeptical…

Nye weakens his case considerably, however, by making factually incorrect statements about how widespread in world cultures creationism is—i.e., the belief that God or gods made life independently of purely natural methods—saying, instead, that the “denial of evolution is unique to the United States.”

…and so is he.

And in the light of recent bio-science discoveries at the sub-molecular level, for him to assert the universe “just becomes fantastically complicated when you don’t believe in evolution” is risible.

It makes you wonder just who is in de-NYE-al here.

See the webzine article, which includes a couple of embedded videos. And for a really thorough analysis of some of Nye’s errors in logic and fact, go here.

Nothing would spoil a child’s genuine love of a science more than to be told “you must believe in this or that”. If I believe in God I can also believe that the theory of evolution is true and correct. That is, until a better scientific theory comes along. The great strength of science is the ability of scientists to correct scientific theories that do not correspond to observable facts. There are few religions who share this strength. There should be no dogma in science or religion, as far as I am concerned. However, we must not let our culture fall victim to those who deny evolution because of their religious beliefs; or because of their misunderstanding of the study of science. I would agree that parents who teach their children that evolution is wrong commit child abuse.

If pastors, priests. rabbis, and “so called” Christians would stop their false (old Earth) and foolish (young Earth) teachings, and start promoting the truth of Genesis (Observations of Moses), then there would hardly be any room for the ridiculous teaching of evolution.

Collectively, Bible believers are so “blind”, that their approach to Genesis is a joke. Instead of seeking the truth, they continue to support the current lies and foolishness of Creationism. Genesis does not have any “Creation accounts”. When you keep telling a person that their car is running out of gas, and they refuse to look at the fuel gauge and go to the gas station, you begin to wonder how “dumb” they are.

Perhaps they are just like the Jews, who value tradition over the truth of scripture.

Is it strange that Atheists want the cram their false beliefs down everyone else’s throats, without allowing a (valid) opposing view?

Alex — Thanks for that link.

    I especially liked:

“[NYE]: … but don’t make your kids do it because we need them.”

“YOM: The irony here is this: in the evolution worldview, kids are just a chemical accident. So why is Nye so concerned about what they are taught? The notion that kids are objectively valuable is only meaningful in the Christian worldview, where God has made people in His image.”

It’s inescapable: If everything is an accident, then rationality itself (along with its offspring science) is inherently unreliable and ultimately impossible.

But for some reason, clear thinking seems to escape committed evolutionists — as does the concept of irony.

Yes, precisely. The logic of this is both basic and sound, and yet the ‘champions of rationality’ as they like to style themselves fail (on purpose?) to see this. I’m constantly amazed at how poor these people are when it comes to understanding basic philosophical positions and arguments; they are just no good at it, and yet they persist in calling themselves ‘brights’ and also fail to see the irony in doing so. They are completely blind to their own shortcomings.

They are completely blind to their own shortcomings.”

Which could be stated another way: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
