  1. Avatar is ideological porn for lefties, which also happens to be a huge money maker by being the biggest, shiniest bauble in theaters. As John Nolte noted, over at BigHollywood, if Avatar wins Best Picture, its bauble-ness will become the “cinematic standard.” Maybe some enterprising “scientists,” fresh from their latest global warming debacle, can put the brakes on that trend by “proving” that watching movies through 3-D glasses causes brain tumors and cataracts. And Hollywood will go back to investing in writers and directors more interested in telling cinematic stories rather than scoring ideological points with pretty pictures. … You know … for the children.
